CD: The Music of Walter Gieseking, Karen Haid, flute and piano

Karen Haid plays 20th-century music for flute and piano composed by the legendary pianist Walter Gieseking.

As a pianist Walter Gieseking (1895 – 1956) was one of the legends of the twentieth century: a celebrated interpreter of the French and German repertoire. As a composer he is little-known and yet, in taste and style, his music reflects the love of Debussy, Ravel, Grieg and others which brought him such acclaim as a performer. On this disc Karen Haid plays works written between the 1920s and 1940s for piano – both two and four hands – and for flute and piano.

PRAISE FOR THE MUSIC OF WALTER GIESKING:  “Karen, amazing! You really are masterful on two instruments. I couldn’t believe the artistry and technical control. I also was deeply impressed to discover Gieseking, the composer. Yours is a major contribution…wonderful playing!”
